The Front Steps Project
Hey guys wow what a crazy couple weeks it has been, I mean if you would've told me back in December I would be staying at home all the time and every non-essential store would be closed in Memphis including the zoo, the mall and all the gyms; I would've called you a liar, lol.
My parents are both front liners, my mom being a respiratory therapist and my dad being a firefighter; so I get to hear all the sad stories out there right now and it just can really weigh you down, I can't even imagine being there and seeing it first hand. This type of thing is why I absolutely adore first responders and think the world of them. You have to be a special kind of person to be able to do those jobs.
I am thrilled to be a part of this community building project that Memphis Moms is putting together! It is called The Front Steps Project. Myself and several other photographers all across Memphis have come together(virtually) and will be taking pictures of Memphis families on their front porches to document this time in our city. All 6 photographers, myself included, have volunteered to shoot within our neighborhoods. Because of the stay at home order, we want to be careful for the well being of ourselves and our families, therefore we will only be shooting in our own neighborhood area.
In lieu of payment we are asking for a donation to the mid south food bank, if you can. To apply to get your family's photo taken please email firstname.lastname@example.org and she will be happy to connect you with your neighborhoods photographer and then they can make the arrangements on a day and time. I am so honored to be able to help the Memphis Food Bank and be able to capture this time in so many families lives.
Now when the photographer arrives at your house, whether it be me or one of the other amazing photographers, we won't be ringing your doorbell or knocking on doors; as you will have a preset time to be out on your front porch ready to go. We will shoot from at least 6+ feet away, or if possible from our cars, just to be safe. I am putting the link below if anyone would like to donate to the mid south food bank and once again if you cannot donate it is ok, we understand these are trying times for everyone.
I am so excited to be doing this and can't wait to see everyones amazing photos! Thank you to all the other photographers helping out around Memphis and thank you to all who donate or participate.
This is a crazy time right now in America please be safe and stay at home, nothing is worth you, your family members or loved ones life. We are all in this together and we will come out stronger for it. Talk to you soon!
