The Cost of a Professional Photographer | Memphis Photographer

I've had a couple people ask me why I charge what I do. Then they usually go on to tell me that they have come across other photographers that charge less, and ask what is the difference between me and them? so I want to tackle this topic today. First off let me say I am a Professional Photographer, which means I have countless hours of schooling, classes and experience in photography, specifically maternity, newborn and family photography. Usually(I can't account for all of them) the photographers that charge less, are considered amateurs.

They are doing this a hobby, something fun to do or are just starting out. Which don't get me wrong, is great everyone has to start somewhere, it all comes down to the old saying "you get what you pay for". So exactly what are you paying for? Well for me that means you are paying for experience, me knowing how to handle my camera, and lighting, and my equipment. Which isn't cheap either.

I also pay to be a part of several national professional photographer associations, which gives us access to classes and workshops, so that we are constantly learning and expanding our knowledge of photography and the newest techniques and equipment. On average a professional photographer spends:

1+ hours prepping (emailing, consults, etc.)

1-4 hours shooting

10-30 minutes editing per picture(4-12 hours)

5+ hours of everything else(driving, posting online, delivering, packaging, ordering)

and that is PER SESSION, which a lot of people don't realize. Those of us who do this for a living can have anywhere upwards of 4 sessions a week! So that's a lot of prepping, shooting, editing, and everything else. We here at Jessie Anne Photography invest a lot of money($$$$) in software, props, camera and lighting equipment to insure we give you the best quality of images possible.

Then because most professional photographers are local and not commercial like some big box cheaper studios, we don't get paid vacation, sick days, bonuses, or insurance plans. So when you purchase your session and images through Jessie Anne Photography or any other local photographer, your money goes to bills and things to provide a normal way of life not a second or third house or a amazing vacation or car.

Then after all is said and done, every couple months, we get to visit our wonderful CPA which we pay for as well and pay uncle sam 35% of everything we make from our wonderful clients.

Now don't get us wrong, we love what we do! Jessie Anne Photography has no greater pride in capturing every little moment from the maternity images to the newborn to the 1 year milestones and more for you to cherish for the rest of your life and your loved ones lives.

This is a post just to inform, because we have so many people ask what they are paying for, and that is completely understandable. We too here at Jessie Anne Photography want to know what we pay for when we invest in something GREAT and AMAZING, because see Jessie Anne Photography is just like you and your family. She strives hard to make sure you love what you pay for, and cherish it for years to come!
